7:06 pm - You have JUNK; I have STUFF
I've been spending the morning organizing all my Barbie stuff (shut up!), and I've been working on my Halloween diorama. This year, the Halloween House is the Barbie Dream House, shaped like a Victorian Queen Anne, and currently inhabited by Teen Skipper and Teen Courtney. (I am trying to find Teen Nikki, the African American friend, and my troika will be complete.)

Did I mention that I have a new job?

That's right; I have a new job. I will be working for my county's library system as a circulation assistant - full time and BENEFITS! I start on Monday! Yay! (Before the upcoming Mercury Retrograde, thank goodness.)

Anyway, this will be my last day off for awhile, so I'm tackling getting everything organized and cleaned up.

But I keep getting distracted. As anyone who decides to clean up anything on an overcast day knows. (Or on a clear day, for that matter!)

I may give up and just make some lunch. Tostadas sound good. Mmmm...

6:40 am - NOT Stargate! Dammit, NOOOOOOO!
Yes, I'm FURIOUS over the cancellation of Stargate SG-1.

And I know a lot of people don't like the new guys - yeah, WHATEVER, 'cause we know "the new guys" on any show never get any love (see John Doggett on "The X Files") until it's too late - but COME ON!

The new guys were not the reason SG-1 got cancelled.

Admit it - weren't the damned Goa'uld a bit BORING at the end? (Actually, they were a LOT BORING at the end, but that's me.)I mean, it seemed like every FREAKING week, there was ANOTHER system lord somewhere, and man, that got TIRED. Couldn't the writers come up with something better?

And they whole Sam/Jack ship bored me to tears. Man! Why can't they have a male and a female work together on a show and JUST BE FRIENDS? Why must they ruin things by having them fall in love? (See Mulder and Scully on "The X Files".)I"m glad the UST between Sam and Jack was never resolved, but it it was just ANNOYING while it lasted.

Oh, and the Ancients, the Alterans, or whatever they call themselves? DEUS EX MACHINA IS IN THE HOUSE! Same with the Asgard. Over-reliance much? Every week they came up with some superweapon or escape clause or just plain plot-wank to get the heroes out of trouble. For beings who didn't like to get involved with more "unevolved" species, they sure as stuck their noses into the stories all the time.

Let's face the facts - the writers just got plain LAZY.

Because it's easier to write yet another scene of Jack being all wild and crazy, Sam being all Super!Sam, Daniel being all technogeek and Teal'c being all big and Jaffa instead of actually giving us a PLOT and some REAL suspense.

And to be fair - we kept on watching.

But when you get new cast members and you're still doing the same shit? It doesn't work.

But that doesn't mean the SCI-FI network had to fucking CANCEL them.

I mean, what are they going to put on in it's place? "Tremors, the Series"??? (Yes, I'm STILL bitter about "Farscape" - why do you ask?)

I just started watching Season 9 - no, I don't have cable, so yeah, I'm a year behind - and the story is actually GETTING good. I like the whole Ori storyline. (And taken with the Wraith storyline on "Stargate Atlantis", for Ascended Beings, the Alterans have managed to piss off a bunch of people, haven't they?) Julian Sands as a baddie? Always a good thing.

And I've read the spoilers, and no I'm not happy with, well YOU KNOW, the whole Vala thing. But I still want to watch it DESPITE all that. Because it finally seemed like the new guys were breaking out on their own...

And then SCI-FREAKING-FI had to cancel them. Assholes.

I really hope that MGM goes forth and releases direct-to-video stories to finish up the Ori storyline. I think it might be a blessing in disguise, because now they won't be bound by the requirements of episodic TV. They can take some chances. They can put the heroes into REAL danger, they can let the baddies get BADDER. They can let the heroes FAIL and the bad guys WIN. And then give us a slam-bang reason when the heroes ultimately win (hey, this is Stargate we're talking about, not some depressing post-modern novel, okay?)

They can start thinking outside of the BOX.

And then, if they want to shut down Stargate SG-1, they can. And not a minute before.

(However, if you kill off Cam Mitchell, I'll never speak to you again. I'm just saying. This ain't "Serenity", ya know?)

7:13 pm - Jerks and other neighbors
Has this happened to you?

The nouveau riche jerkwad down the street just has to keep turning around his convertible in YOUR driveway, so he can keep his car running, because it's parked in his garage all the time?

The people throwing the party for their candidate has the obligatory idiots with the Benz who just have to try and park their car on your grass, despite the fact that there's plenty of open space on the other side of the street (where there's only wooded area in the first place)?

I swear, whatever happened to people respecting their neighbors yards?

7:47 pm - Predictions for Harry Potter Book Seven
Let me get it off my chest - my first and foremost prediction for the unnamed Book Seven is that J.K. Rowling will write something that pisses me off.

Yes, I will get back to my rant about HBP, but right now, I want to get this out of the way.

6:02 pm - R.I.P. Budget Living magazine
Well, it's official - Budget Living, my favorite magazine has gone under.

I suspected as much - I couldn't find it on the stands in February. I thought I had missed it - turns out January was the last issue.

I had an inkling something like this was going to happen. I wasn't happy when I heard it was going to a monthly format - monthlies need more advertising revenue, and more articles to be produced. If they had stayed quarterly -like Mary Englebreit's magazine did during the first five years - then it would have been better.

I don't know why people think more issues is a good thing.

Another problem was the message was diluted. I noticed, in the last few months. that it was focusing more and more on "upscale" items, which wasn't what the magazine was about in the beginning. When it first came out, it was fun and funky parties, quirky people, fab fashions, all with a little bit of cash. The last few issues seemed to consist of people remodelling million dollar lofts with sofas that started at $5000.

I'll miss you, Budget Living. The letters to the editor were always a hoot, and any magazine that feaures a party that serves "ants on a log" as an appetizer? Too cool.

Maybe that was the problem - instead of being the cool, thirfty kids on the block, they wanted to hang out with the cool rich kids. Which is okay, provided you have lots of cash and don't lose yourself along the way.

Somewhere along the line, the Budget Living I (and a lot of people) loved, got lost.

10:57 pm - Serenity NOW!
A friend of mine sent a parody of the "Rules for Serenity", so I thought I'd come up with my own:

Grant me the patience to not knock my customers into next week.

Grant me the patience to listen to their bitching and whining without responding with, "Your lack of money? This is my problem why?

Grant me the control to not point at their $300 handbags and $500 leather jackets when they complain about prices, or to point out that REAL poor people don't have Coach and Ralph Lauren and Louis Vuitton.

Give me the willpower to bite my tongue and not mention that they drink three Venti Starbucks lattes a day, that they're going to pee it out in an hour, but that my product lasts all week.

1:30 pm - Half-Blood Prince? Try Half-A***d Writing!
Hello, I'm back.

Yes, it's been a while since my last post, although I've been hanging around reading other people's journals.

Mostly I've been enjoying the wonderful Harry Potter community here on LJ. But as I've become immersed more and more in the discussion side of HP fandom (as opposed to the fanfic side - still good BTW!), it has come to my attention that, IMHO, too many people are giving J.K. Rowling a free pass after Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince .

Since I haven't written anything new lately in my "real" fics, let me share a few drabbles I've posted over at the HP100(Harry Potter)drabble community.

Warning: the first drabble contains spoilers for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince".

8:45 pm - Sam Seaborn doll!
Well, not really. but this "Rose Prince Ken" bears an uncanny resemblance to Sam Seaborn from "The West Wing"

I redressed him in a Ken outfit that reminded me of Sam's standard wear:

Found this site while I was goofing off, reading old Television Without Pity posts:

Smallville 4.1

That's right - the fans have decided to it the Big Reset Button In The Sky, and re-do this season.

Although, I hope they keep "Run" as it was the best episode this season and features the future Flash, Bart Allen.

They also have cool wallpapers and a kick-ass "trailer" for the first "episode"!

Go and partake!

12:30 pm - I'm back!
I can't believe it's been almost six months since my last entry!

I've spent the time getting my novel edited and ready to send out. Yeah, I'm a slooooooooooooooooow typer. Remind me to never write a novel longhand again.

I had my previous novel "A Man in a Month" rejected AGAIN, and with ANOTHER form letter. Sheesh! I could handle a letter that says, "I think this story is boring and I don't like your characters," but saying "This is not what we're looking for at this time" - what the fuck does THAT mean?

I swear as God is my witness, I'm ready to self-publish. I mean, if publishers aren't going to give reasons for rejections, then why bother having novelists send anything to you?

Another thing I'm ready to do is start a gourmet vegan blog. Seriously, I look at those foodie blogs and I'm like, why doesn't someone do the same for vegans? I want to see some pretty pictures, dammit! I want wine with my meals, and silverware and tablecloths and napkins! Why the hell does healthy eating have to be so damned boring?

I admit it; I'm superficial. I want my food to look good and taste good and I want it served on some pretty plates too.

I'm becoming a vegan; I'm not there yet. I gave up dairy and seafood this past month cause I swore that I would stop eating animal products completely when I turned 40 (that's only a month away), and I don't miss seafood, surprisingly. I thought I would. Eating vegan meals isn't that hard. Luckily, I work where there are lots of places you can get veggies and salad and things like veggie sushi. And home means simple meals of soup or spaghetti or chinese takeout. (I like to cook, but don't do it that often.)

I've also been working full time too, which SUCKS. It's cutting into my writing time. If I ran the universe, everyone would have money and be able to do what they really wanted in life. I would sit at home and write my stories and get them published (yes!) and take more time to cook, maybe even garden.

Anyway, that's it for now.

8:23 am - Leave me the @#$%&*!!! alone!
I swear I'm going to kill people.

Just fifty freaking pages left in my novel, and this is the second time in a week I've been called into work because either some asshole didn't show up, or somebody decides, "Ooh, I'm going to make up some shit and take the day off!"

Oh, and of course I get the call because people think, "Oh, she's just writing! It's not like she's doing any real work!"

And what pisses me off is that the person who's taking the day off ALREADY took a damned vacation around the Fourth of July weekend! Shit! How many fucking days do they need off?

And you know what? If I came in and said, "Oh, I'm taking the day off to go to a conference, so someone needs to cover for me", I would get all kinds of shit.

Not to mention this is the first time I've heard about this person needing to go to a conference! I mean, you could fucking let people know in advance!

I swear, as God is my witness, this had better be the last interruption I have before this novel is finished OR ELSE!!!!

3:17 pm - Oh well...
There's no other way to say it...

The novel got rejected.

I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be accepted. Not because it's a bad novel, but I just had a feeling they wouldn't take it.

In a way, I'm relieved because it was a romantic comedy, and I'm no longer certain if that's the genre I should be writing. Not that I'm not funny, but because I just don't know if I really want to write contemporary romances. I'd really rather be writing sci-fi romance, or fantasy, or action-adventure romance.

On the other hand, who the hell wants to get rejected? And what pisses me off is that it was the QUERY LETTER that got rejected, not the actual novel. I feel like I could understand it if I sent in sample chapters as well as the query letter, but being rejected because of the query letter???

Sigh.

I just thank God that I've already started two other novels. I mean, if I was just sitting around waiting to hear from the publisher and got this news I'd freak out. As it is, this just makes me even more determined to get published and to say "I'll show you!"

Still, I think I should be very nice to my inner writer, who, as Julia Cameron says in The Artist's Way, is just a kid and needs to treats to continue writing. So this weekend I am treating myself to the following:

1) A Caramel Frappuccino. A LARGE ONE. (Yes, I was the one who got <lj username "Pekeana") hooked on them!) 2) Sushi. Lots and lots of sushi. 3) A Cinnamon Pretzel from Auntie Anne's. 4) That doll I saw at KB Toys. It's only ten bucks so it won't break the bank.

1:17 pm - Happy Birthday to Me!!!!
That's right - da da da da de da! Today is my birthday!

And I'm 39 AND PROUD OF IT!

I get so tired of women who won't acknowledge their age! Sheesh! This is the 21st century - be proud of being older!

Who the hell wants to be nineteen again? I sure as hell don't!

So far, I 've gone out and shopped a little but not as much as I would like due to limited funds. But I am enjoying a nice sushi lunch, something that I don't have often enough.

I have to go run some errands, then it's off to the movies to see my boyfriend VIGGO! in "Hildago'! Yay!
